Starting January 1, 2026, all foreign nationals entering Georgia must have a valid travel insurance policy. This requirement aims to ensure access to proper medical care and reduce the financial burden in case of emergencies while in the country.
Travel insurance has long been a mandatory entry requirement in many countries—for example, in the Schengen Area, it’s always included as part of a visa application. Georgia is now joining this international practice. Under the new regulation:
The insurance policy must be valid for the entire period of your stay in Georgia.
Border officials may ask for proof of insurance at airports and land border checkpoints.
Without the required insurance, travelers could face a fine of 300 Georgian Lari (about 43,000 Armenian Drams).
Insurance Coverage Requirements
The mandatory travel insurance must include at least:
$5,000 USD for emergency outpatient medical care
$30,000 USD for inpatient treatment, including accidents, injuries, sudden illness, and medical evacuation.
EFES Insurance's Offer
To meet these new requirements, EFES Insurance has developed the Travel Georgia insurance program, which is fully aligned with Georgia’s updated rules and offers comprehensive protection with coverage up to €30,000.
Why Choose EFES Travel Georgia Insurance?
You can purchase a policy even for just 1 day
No age limits
Affordable pricing, starting from only 500 AMD
A wide range of additional coverage options based on your needs
Covers both medical and non-medical expenses during travel.
Example of Why It’s Useful
Suppose a tourist is riding an electric scooter in central Tbilisi and, unable to brake in time, collides with a car. As a result:
The person needs hospitalization
Damage occurs to the vehicle
Transport and medical costs arise
Under the EFES Travel Georgia plan, all these costs would be covered by the insurance, helping the traveler avoid significant financial burden.
This legislative change in Georgia is currently in the initial implementation phase, therefore please note that further updates or amendments may follow. We will share any additional information and updates on our blog.
